| 1. Objectives of the Project
The 21 Century Sejong Project aims to achieve the following tasks for the creation of the information society that is based on the Korean language and writing system.
...(1) Construction of the information system for the world-class basic database of the Korean

...(2) Systematization of the Korean language by building a standardized electronic dictionary
...(3) Globalization of the Korean language by constructing an information-oriented program for
........international Korean
...(4) Standardization of the Korean language by systematizing standards and tools for the
........language information system
If, we believe, the tasks stated above are successfully achieved, they will become valuable infrastructure for the information-oriented system of Korean. They will also help Korean people play a leading role in the forthcoming information era. The task of constructing the information-oriented program for "international" Korean is aimed at achieving a number of goals such as the following.
...Firstly, we should construct the information-oriented program of international Korean to contribute to help Korean people use their language correctly and more productively. It should also be a valuable asset in our effort of introducing the world to the remarkable cultural achievements Korean people made for their language and writing system.
...Secondly, this system should be productively used in preventing increasing difference between the languages used in South and North Korea, and bringing in harmony and unification of the information-oriented systems conducted separately.
...Thirdly, we should be able to use this system for providing information of the standardized Korean language and writing system for Koreans across the world so that they can use it profitably for education and communication.
...Finally, we should be able to take creative measures to ensure this system global use, for example, by providing its well-organized information for foreigners who are interested in Korean tradition and culture including the Korean language and writing system.
